Advancing Place-Based Environmental Impact Through Research and Practice

The Success Lab

Local, place-based environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs) serve a critical role in the stewardship of natural resources and supporting resilient communities globally, yet we fundamentally lack the language and frameworks to fully assess and understand how they advance transformative socio-ecological change. While often working in coalitions at regional, national, and global scales, place-based ENGOs are the holders of the relationships, knowledge, and legitimacy to implement programs and drive exchange of ideas.

The Success Lab is a Yale-based research and learning hub that helps ENGOs understand, strengthen, and scale their impact at a moment of profound change in the practice of conservation and development. By making the often-invisible work of place-based ENGOs visible and actionable, the Lab strengthens practice, informs funding and policy decisions, and helps train the next generation of environmental leaders.
